Energy Drink Show Down - An SEO Audit of two Brands.

5-hour energy shot vs Nos energy drink

 

Introduction

For this SEO Audit I will be looking at what keywords that trigger the two brands that I have selected. When typing keywords like “energy drink” into the Google search bar the key is to see which of the two brands I have selected ranks first on google. This information is useful to each brands marketing team because it allows them to see if there product will be easily identified by the average consumer who happens to be undecided on what kind of energy drink they should buy.

The page is easy to navigate with bold text and links. The page is also not overloaded with information.
The home page is very basic and easy to navigate. There are not a lot of links to click as compared to 5 hour energy

The 5-hour energy home page is colorful and easy on the eyes. It contains rotating images and bold text.
The Nos home page is bright and bold as well as all the images are large and stand out to the reader.

Google Trends Insights:

The topic that our group chose was on energy drinks. The two bands that I compared was 5-Hour energy and Nos energy drink. As the graph shows the energy drink trend has large peaks and valleys throughout the 12 month period. When it comes to the brands, 5 Hour energy has a large trend boost between September and October. But soon after starts to return to normal. The large spike could be from a new flavor release or a large promotion of the product. Nos energy drink does not show many peaks and valleys as compared to 5-hour energy this could be due to a lack of marketing and exposer.

Summary:

When searching both brands using the LSI generator a lot of the same keywords were found such as drink ingredients, flavors, and reviews. Both sites have very similar content on them as well as the same wording. Even when looking up the keyword “energy drinks” I found that there were many different brands to choose from, that it wasn’t till the second page that I found a picture of a Nos energy drink. I found that I had to be more specific with my keyword searches. For example I had to use the keyword “energy shot” in order to find 5-Hour Energy.

Conclusion:

To conclude this report, I found Nos Energy drink to be the brand that got the most attention. When searching the keyword “energy drink” it was the brand that provided information on the first page as well as a visual display of the product. 5-Hour Energy was labeled as a shot so it wasn’t until I changed the keyword to “energy shot” that it was displayed on google but still was not found on the first page.
