Rockstar Energy Drink vs AMP Energy: Facebook Presence

Rockstar Energy Drink vs AMP Energy: Facebook Presence

Over the next few days I’ll be examining two brands in the Energy Drink industry, and looking at how strong their presence is on Social Media. The two brand that I have chosen is Rockstar Energy Drink and AMP Energy

The first social media platform that I will look at is Facebook.

When looking at the last 25 post from Rockstar Energy, I noticed that they are quite active with the posting. Based off the last 25 post, Rockstar Energy has posted something every day, with one or two post a day.  In terms of the content that is being posted, majority of it is of the different sports and athletes Rockstar Energy has sponsored, which include Skateboarding, BMX, Off-road Racing, Freestyle Surfing, etc. Based off the recent post Rockstar Energy does not follow the Social Media 50/50 rule frequently. For those of you who are not familiar with the Social Media 50/50 rule, it is when 50% of your post are about your blog or business and the other 50% are about the industry or community. It is a balance way to promote yourself to your followers but at the same time keeping them interested and engaged.

The reason the two post were the most popular, is simply because Rockstar Energy’s target market is predominantly males, by posting pictures of attractive woman, this is Rockstar Energy’s way of promoting their brand and getting likes.

AMP Energy is not as active on their Facebook account compared to Rockstar Energy. AMP Energy post something at least once a week. The longest they went without posting based of the last 25 post was two weeks. The content that is uploaded consist of new flavours being introduced, coupons, video, and images. AMP Energy has a sponsorship with the NHL, so a lot of their post have to do with Hockey. AMP Energy does a good job using the Social Media 50/50 rule. Usually they will post image introducing a new flavor which will be followed by a post that is related to the NHL, their sponsorship.

Most Recent Popular Post:

  • 1300 Likes
  • 1.2 Million Views

Although AMP Energy does not post as frequently as they should, they are able to post videos that hit viral numbers in views, and get thousands of likes. The reason I these two post were popular is due to creativity and uniqueness. AMP Energy upload something that is different compared to the competitors.

Final Thoughts:

Rockstar has 2,107,101 Likes on their Facebook page, however the most popular post was only able to get a little under 150 Likes, under 15 Shares, and less than 10 comments. Comparing that to AMP Energy, which has 52,207 likes on Facebook, but is able to get 1.2 million views on their most popular post is quite interesting. Now I didn’t go through all of Rockstar Energy’s post on Facebook, so it’s quite possible that they have had a viral post before. However this was based on the last 25 post for each brand. Rockstar Energy does post frequently but gets very few likes, shares, and comments. AMP Energy post on average once weeks, and is able to get hundreds of likes, shares and comments, and able to get millions of views.

Let me know your thoughts on this examination in the comments below. Next I will examine the presence of both brands on Twitter.
